Postgraduate students have consistently rated the teaching and organisation of modules and programmes as exceptional.

Our staff members serve as academic advisers and experts to UK and international agencies, including the World Bank, the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the UK Treasury and many other organisations.

The School currently has 25 members of academic staff, with 40 MSc students and 33 PhDs. All academic staff are research active, and teaching and learning are informed by the School’s thriving research culture and strong international staff and student community.

Taught programmes
We offer eight MSc programmes:

Economics
Economics and Econometrics
Economics and Finance
Finance and Econometrics
International Finance and Development
International Development
Applied Environmental Economics
Agricultural Economics

These degrees provide excellent training in core postgraduate economics - advanced microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Students then specialise in applied areas such as financial economics, international finance, growth and development, environmental economics and agricultural policy. All students take a module in research methods which trains students in the skills and expertise essential for professional economists.

The School also runs an MSc Conversion programme for students without the necessary background in economics to go directly onto an MSc degree. It is a two-year programme where the first year prepares students for postgraduate study of economics and the second year is the MSc programme itself.

Research programmes
The School offers research degrees (PhD) in Economics or Agri-Environmental Economics, which provide excellent research supervision and training for careers in professional and academic economics. We provide an excellent research environment for our research students who receive guidance and feedback from two supervisors, who are experts in the chosen field of study.

Research
The School has an outstanding record for world-leading research and developing the careers of postgraduate students. We have a thriving research community which runs twice weekly seminars and our staff have written a number of academic books and publish in major economic journals. Research and taught postgraduate students are an important part of our dynamic research culture. Staff in the School can supervise PhDs in most major areas of the discipline and we have particular strengths in macroeconomics, labour economics, applied microeconomics, time-series econometrics, agricultural and environmental economics, international trade and finance, and migration.

Resources
The School of Economics provides dedicated resources for all postgraduate students, with office space and access to computers and specialist software, and extensive collections in the University’s Templeman Library. All postgraduate students benefit from the comprehensive facilities on the extensive and beautiful Canterbury campus, for sport, arts and culture, medical needs, shops and eating facilities. The new Woolf College on campus is dedicated for postgraduate use, combining residential accommodation and social space.

Location
The city of Canterbury is a beautiful and historic city, ideally located less than an hour from London, and 22 miles from sea and rail links to continental Europe.

Careers
