Career History
Haiyan Hui chose to come and LLM E-Commerce at the University of Hertfordshire as it was recommended by her supervisors in Chin. They knew the the experience she could gain in the UK would be cutting edge in this subject, enabling her to get an excellent job after her studies
“I chose to study at the University of Hertfordshire for a number of reasons. It was recommended to me by my supervisor and the professors are at the forefront of their subjects. The University has a nice environment and a great location near London, but the expenses are much cheaper.
I chose the E-commerce Law course for further study because I am interested in this emerging area. The course allows me to discuss questions with the tutors and classmates which I like and I enjoy thinking freely here. I also like writing essays and the classes that we have. During my course I used to visit the crown court which was really good.
In my spare time I like to make new friends, practice my English and learn new things, such as sports, painting and designing. I am a member of the Discussion society where I enjoy talking with my friends. Learning these new things and making friends are some of the best parts of studying at the University of Hertfordshire.
After my studies I plan to return to my country and work. UH has been very helpful and I will never forget my time here. I would definitely recommend the University of Hertfordshire to friends.”
Name: Diyalanthonige Nauka Vishmi Fernando
Age: 23
Country of origin: Sri Lanka
Programme: BEng Digital Communication and Electronics
Career History
Nauka joined the University as a final year entry student from Sri Lankan telecom (SLT) in Sri Lanka where the University has an agreement for HND holders. Nauka plans to get some valuable UK work experience on completion of her course before returning to Sri Lanka.
“I’m Nauka Fernando from Sri Lanka and I’m a direct entrant to final year BEng (Hons) Digital Communication and Electronics at the University of Hertfordshire. This is my first time experience in UK and is a great opportunity for me to continue my studies in a different world with different cultural friends. I managed to find a place to live near to the university (off campus) with couple of my friends so it is easy for me to manage time with my studies.
The University premises are very huge and very beautiful. The most important place that I like to spend more time is the Learning Resource Centre (LRC). Since it is open 24/7 we are able to go to LRC whenever we want. Therefore I and friends use to go to LRC at night times to study as a group or for silent study. Therefore this is a place which is very flexible in every way and has access to thousands of books and e-journals at any time throughout the year and also it has its own café too. We were given access to journals, safari books and other library access by the university and that was a great help for our research and especially for my project.
Other facilities include the student centre which is the place to get international student support with very friendly staff and the job centre which is the place where to find part-time jobs that are available. The lab facilities are excellent and we have entertainment places on campus and also a university bus service. The lecturers are very friendly and helpful in every way.
Finally I would say that ‘Life at university’ is the best experience in my life to date.”
