The University of Glasgow is in the top 1% of universities in the world (2010 QS World University Rankings) and is one of the UK’s oldest institutions of learning, recognised internationally for its groundbreaking research.

Location
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, with a population of 600,000. The main campus is located in the cosmopolitan West End of Glasgow, just under two miles from the vibrant city centre.
The University combines the benefits and security of a campus-style environment with close proximity to vibrant city life offering a legendary live music scene, countless international festivals and the best shopping in the UK outside London.
Glasgow's location also makes it a good starting point for exploring the rest of Scotland and further afield. Scotland's stunning landscapes and coastlines can easily be accessed via public transport with popular Loch Lomond just 20 minutes’ drive away. The city also boasts excellent transport links with its two international airports and two train stations.
Teaching and Research
The University of Glasgow's international reputation for research and teaching makes it a rewarding place for study. With over 300 taught postgraduate programmes, the University offers a wealth of studying opportunities. We are currently home to over 4500 postgraduate students who play an important part in the life of the university.
Glasgow has an enviable record for innovative research. The University of Glasgow's 2,500 researchers contribute to a groundbreaking and diverse range of projects. The University is also a member of the prestigious Russell Group of 20 major research universities in the UK.
Campus Facilities and Student Life
The University offers over 3,500 residential spaces and guarantees a place to all full-time new entrant home and international students studying for a degree, provided they apply by the 22 August deadline date.
The library is one of the best academic libraries in Europe with over two million books, ranging from medieval manuscripts to the latest electronic databases.
The University provides first-class sporting facilities including a fully equipped gym, sauna and steam room, squash courts, swimming pool, games pitches, tennis courts, an athletics track and a cricket oval.
The EFL Unit runs English courses to bring students' English up to entry level. There are Bridging Programmes in August for students preparing for Law, Business, Accounting & Finance, Medicine, or Engineering.
Students can join a range of clubs and societies, including the International Society. Unusually, the University of Glasgow has two Students' Unions on-campus: Glasgow University Union and Queen Margaret Union. Both have study rooms, cafeterias and bars, and they regularly hold concerts, club nights and comedy performances.
The Students’ Representative Council is an elected student body to represent student interests at the University. It also provides a variety of student services.
International Students
The University also has long tradition of welcoming students from all over the world. Glasgow's International Students Welcome and Orientation Programme offers valuable support to students travelling to the city for the first time. Information for International Students.
The International Student Support team provide a dedicated advisory service for international students on non-academic matters such as immigration, employment, finance and any other concerns. International Student Support also run a series of social events throughout the year.
A popular service used by International students who bring their families with them is the International Family Network which runs a variety of activities and events, and provides information about student and family visas, schooling and childcare, what to do in Glasgow and lots more.
