MSc Engineering Management/Computer Aided Product Development
University of Bolton
I’m from Stockport originally and I could have moved anywhere, but I really wanted to stay in the Greater Manchester area because there’s so much going on here. The universities provide a high standard of education, there are plenty of great companies to work for, the cost of living is low and there are a lot of great places to go out and have fun. As a school leaver I was very interested in designing and examining new trends in contemporary design. I loved to use colour creatively, so I chose a degree that would allow me to explore and develop my skills in this area. The University of Bolton’s BA (Hons) allowed me to experiment with a whole range of art and design techniques and materials.
After I graduated I worked in the design team for a multi-national ceramic tile company. However, I found that my career ambitions involved more than creative expression - I wanted to lead the team not just work as a team member. This tempted me back to the University of Bolton to study for my master’s.
I took a combined MSc in Engineering management and Computer Aided Product Development. The course helped me to develop my skills and knowledge in team leading and management, accounting principles, writing business proposals and plans, project management, 3D design and CAD. I’ve found my new skills to be extremely valuable, especially in terms of my enhanced understanding of general business principles and finance.
