UEA to host two events about careers in teaching this month
The University of East Anglia will host two events in April for people interested in finding out more about a career in teaching.
People interested in a career in primary education should attend an open day on Saturday 24th April from 11.30am-2pm. And those interested in a career in secondary education are invited to an open evening on Tuesday 27th April from 6-8pm.
During both of these events course tutors who teach in the specific key stages will be on hand to offer advice on any aspect of the one-year, full-time PGCE route into teaching.
UEA is one of the UK’s top teacher training institutions and its postgraduate teaching programmes are considered to be among the best in the country.
The PGCE primary course focuses on teaching across the 3-11 year age range. All students will be prepared to be a general class teacher while focusing within foundation stage, key stage 1 and key stage 2 specialisms. Primary modern language options at key stage 2 are also available in French, German and Spanish.
The PGCE secondary course focuses on teaching across the 11-18 year age range. All students are prepared to teach their main subject and to make an effective contribution to the work of schools beyond their subject, including pastoral care, as underpinned by the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda. Subjects offered include English, geography, history, mathematics, modern foreign languages, physical education, religious education and science (with specialism in biology, chemistry or physics).
As well as university-based sessions, both courses incorporate two extensive school placements which involve a combination of observation, team teaching and solo teaching.
Nick Gee, associate dean for admissions in the Faculty of Social Sciences at UEA says, 'The University of East Anglia has consistently been regarded as being one of the country’s best teacher education providers. With career opportunities in teaching being far wider and more diverse than ever before, teaching offers unique rewards: the job satisfaction of working with lively young people, the opportunity to make a real difference to lives, and the chance to work in stimulating teams.'
