UEA is offering fully-funded PhD studentships

The School of Social Work and Psychology at the University of East Anglia is offering full and part-time studentships for social work and social policy research areas and projects. Research areas include protecting children, improving child placement, fathers and work-family negotiation, parenting, and legal and professional issues.

Judi Walsh, postgraduate admissions tutor, says: ‘We are pleased to be able to offer these studentships, which provide an excellent opportunity for promising postgraduates to train as UEA social science researchers. The School of Social Work and Psychology is an internationally leading academic department with a strong interdisciplinary focus and research reputation, which has led to innovation in social work, policy and practice in the UK and overseas. Through teaching and research, the school’s ultimate goal is to enhance the well-being of children, parents and adults in their families and communities.’

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) 1+3 and +3 studentships, and university-funded PhD studentships are available to start in October 2010. The awards cover tuition fees, a tax-free maintenance grant and a research training support grant. The deadline for applications is Monday 15th March 2010.

The last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) rated 90% of the School of Social Work and Psychology’s research as international standing with 55% judged to be “world leading” or “internationally excellent”. The school is home to the Centre for Research on the Child and Family, a key institution of UNICEF Childwatch International.
