UEA is offering a Doctorate in Education

The University of East Anglia is offering a four-year part-time Doctorate in Education programme. This programme aims to educate students in applied research and to investigate educational and social issues.

It is run by UEA's School of Education and Lifelong Learning, and has been designed to encourage educational professionals to construct their own programme of research, which could also look at issues related to their everyday work experience or organisation.

The Doctorate in Education programme recruits every two years, and the next group is due to start in October 2010.

Students will attend weekend study blocks at UEA during their first and second years. The remainder of the course involves independent study and completion of assignments and a thesis, with support from a dedicated supervisor within a wider supervisory team.

Gibson D’Cruz, a previous graduate from the EdD, says, 'The EdD is an ideal programme for a busy professional who would like to pursue a doctoral qualification. I have used the work from the thesis for two conference papers so far and hope to do two more in the next year.'

Anne Williamson, another graduate of the EdD, says, 'One of the prime advantages of the EdD is the diversity of backgrounds which leads to a lively exchange of ideas from various perspectives.'

Subject areas that have previously been studied include higher and further education, gender studies, education for health and social welfare and curriculum development.
