The Vice-Chancellor at the University of Kent has been awarded a DBE

Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow of the University of Kent has been appointed DBE in the Queen's birthday honours for her services to science. This was announced on the Saturday 12th June 2010.

Dame Julia Goodfellow said: 'I am delighted. This is a great honour and one which reflects well on the University and the Kent and Medway region.'

Valerie Marshall, Chair of the University of Kent Council, said: 'On behalf of my colleagues at the University of Kent, I would like to congratulate Dame Julia on her award. It is greatly deserved.'

Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow has been Vice-Chancellor at Kent since 2007. She was previously Deputy Master at Birkbeck, University of London, and then Chief Executive of the BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council), where she was responsible for government funding for the biosciences. She was awarded a CBE for services to Biophysics in 2001, was made an honorary fellow of the British Science Association in 2008, and in 2009 became the Association's Chair.
