The University of East London is Green!
The University of East London (UEL) has been awarded the Carbon Trust Standard. This demonstrates that the university has taken real action on climate change by reducing its carbon emissions.
The Carbon Trust Standard was developed by the Carbon Trust, a company set up by the Government to help businesses and public organisations to reduce their emissions.
Sara Kassam, UEL Energy and Environment Manager, says, “This is something we can really celebrate. It is great to receive recognition like this for everything that staff and students have been doing to save energy.” She continues, "The standard shows that we are taking action ourselves by reducing the carbon emissions that we are directly responsible for rather than just paying others to off-set our emissions”.
Some of the projects that have enabled UEL to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard include the installation of new heating controls, efficient condensing boilers, additional insulation, improved lighting controls, renewable technologies (solar photovoltaic cells and a wind turbine) and optimisation of building management systems.
