The Fundación IBERDROLA announces details of its postgraduate scholarships
The Fundación IBERDROLA has announced details of its scholarships for postgraduate studies for the UK and USA. Scholarships will be available for studies at six institutions. Three in the UK - Imperial College London, University of Edinburgh and the University of Strathclyde; and three in the US - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Maine (USA).
The Fundación is responsible for coordinating, driving and promoting the social activities of IBERDROLA, which is the parent company of ScottishPower. The scholarship programme was launched last year as part of the company’s commitment to addressing the emerging needs and skills of the energy industry.
The scholarship programme will contribute to excellence in training in the fields of energy, with a focus on environmental protection as well as the development of low carbon technologies and a sustainable energy model.
The Fundación IBERDROLA scholarship programme is open to British, Spanish and American students studying energy and environment related postgraduate courses. There are up to 14 scholarships available for the academic year 2011/2012, and they will each cover tuition fees and provide a monthly living allowance of £1,200 for a maximum of 12 months.
Ann Loughrey, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at ScottishPower, says: “ScottishPower is delighted to offer scholarships to prospective students who will be studying in the energy industry. We, along with our parent company Iberdrola, have identified a need to address environmental damage and climate change. Our scholarships will offer a route for further study to work towards addressing this. By offering these funded places ScottishPower is aiming to develop skilled leaders and professionals with the highest level of training for the industry. Our company scholarships are aiming to effectively meet the energy needs of people while protecting the environment, particularly in the areas and countries where the Iberdrola Group has a relevant presence, as is the case of the UK and the USA.”
Students studying a relevant field can apply for scholarships between 21st February and 31st March 2011.
