Department of Biosciences
College of Science

The Department of Biosciences offers a stimulating, multi-disciplinary environment for undergraduate study, postgraduate study and further research in the biosciences.  We are part of the newly-formed College of Science which includes Computer Science, Geography, Mathematics and Physics. Each department has its own community spirit and student related activities, yet we pride ourselves on sharing the very best with one another, be it facilities, modern teaching concepts, passion for our subjects or innovative projects across the disciplines, all aimed to further enrich the student experience.

Masters Programmes
We offer an exciting range of Taught Masters and Research Masters programmes which include:

Postgraduate Research Programmes

We offer fully supervised and well-resourced MSc by Research, MPhil and PhD degrees.  These programmes are firmly embedded within a multidisciplinary community of academic staff and research students. The calibre of staff and facilities at our disposal means that we can support the most challenging of research projects at the forefront of their respective fields.

Scholarships
We have a number of Masters and PhD Opportunities available for UK and international applicants.

Internationally Renowned Academics
Our research enriches teaching which means superb facilities for students who will be taught by very high profile researchers which include Professor Tariq Butt (bio-control of crops), Professor Rory Wilson(chief scientific adviser on National Geographic’s Great Migrations and inventor of the SMART tag to monitor animal behaviour), and Professor Graeme Hays(turtle research and climate change affecting oceans).

Collaborative Research with Industry
Launched in Spring 2010 and funded by the Welsh Government "Academia for Business" (A4B), the Algal Biotechnology Knowledge Transfer Centre (KTC) was set up to provide an interface between academia and Welsh businesses interested in working in the algal biotechnology sector.

National Student Survey
