Sheffield Hallam University launches new sport courses

Sheffield Hallam University logoSheffield Hallam University have launched a new sport and exercise psychology qualification, developed in collaboration with the sport and exercise science and the psychology departments at Sheffield Hallam University.

Beginning in September 2009, the MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology will build on Sheffield Hallam's global reputation for sports research.

Developed by the University's teaching team of chartered psychologists and British Psychological Society (BPS) supervisors for the Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology (QSEP), the course will equip psychologists with the skills and knowledge to apply their expertise to the sporting world.

Students will benefit from specialist experience and knowledge from both fields of psychology and sport.

The GB sailing teamCourse modules will cover the psychology of sport and performance, physical activity and health behaviour change, applied techniques in sport and exercise psychology, movement coordination and skill acquisition, lifespan development perspectives in sport and exercise psychology and the individual differences in sport and exercise psychology.

Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Sport and Exercise Science provides expert consultancy services in the field of performance enhancement and physical activity and wellbeing. The Centre for Sport and Exercise Science has a national and international reputation for providing holistic sport science services to elite sport performers.

The Centre for Sport and Exercise Science has worked with world class sports people and Olympic medallists, including the British Olympic cycling team, British No 1 skeleton bobsled Kristian Bromley and champion boxer Amir Khan.

Sheffield Hallam University were the lead psychologist for the British sailing team during the Athens Olympics. They worked on all aspects of creating a winning team, building robust self-confidence and ensuring that the athletes were able to perform at their best under the greatest amount of pressure that they were likely to face in their careers.
