Postgraduate Open Day at The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) at the University of Kent

Start: Saturday 6th March 2010 at 11:00
Finish: Saturday 6th March 2010 at 16:40

The School of European Culture and Languages (SECL) at the University of Kent will be hosting a Postgraduate Open Day on Saturday, March 6, 2010. This event will provide all potential applicants with an opportunity to meet with current postgraduate students and staff who can offer specialised research supervision. Most postgraduate research will be undertaken at the Canterbury campus, but there are opportunities to study at the Paris campus for certain MA programmes.

The interdisciplinary focus of SECL offers a unique opportunity to align your area of study with related fields. The subjects to be represented at the Open Day include:

•    Classical and Archaeological Studies
•    Comparative Literature
•    French
•    German
•    Hispanic Studies
•    Italian
•    Philosophy
•    Theology and Religious Studies

In addition to being able to engage with students and staff, our Director of Graduate Studies will provide details on student funding and grants, including how you can apply for Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) in your subject. Research in SECL is organized around a number of unique centres. Our Director of Research will provide details on the various research centres available in the school and the role they play in the intellectual environment students enjoy. To give you an idea of how vibrant our postgraduate community is, there will be a presentation of SKEPSI, an online postgraduate journal run entirely by SECL postgraduate students. Members of the SKEPSI editorial board have also organised interdisciplinary conferences at Kent, at both its Canterbury and Paris locations.

The Open Day will run from 11:00am to 4:40pm, with lunch included. Because of SECL’s interdisciplinary focus, students are welcome and encouraged to participate over the entire day.
