Professor Vian Ahmed has been appointed as the new Director of Graduate Studies at The University of Salford. The new appointment will seek to create a better research environment for postgraduate research students as well providing higher standards of research training and focussed support to meet targets.
A more cohesive community feel within postgraduates is one of Ahmed’s aims as she feels this will encourage increased collaboration of ideas as well as a greater sense of belonging to the research community. This will be conducted through a series of workshops, seminars and social trips for the students as well as the sharing of best practice and supervision guidelines among university staff.
“I'm excited about this opportunity as I'm passionate about our postgraduate research and keen to transform the student experience. Postgraduates are vital to the research development of our university,” said Ahmed. During her time at the University of Salford’s School of the Built Environment Professor Ahmed was involved in a number of funded research projects around her research interests of construction management, e-learning and 3D digital models.
"Vian brings a new dimension to this role. Her energy and commitment to our postgraduate students will put her in a strong position to drive this important area forward,” said Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Hall.
