Liverpool Hope University offers Commonwealth Scholarship

Liverpool Hope University launches first Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for September 2010. The university has teamed up with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the launch of its first Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for the MA International Perspectives on Education Programme for September 2010 start.

This joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from DFID), and UK universities, is aimed at supporting students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.

The Commonwealth Scholarship, which is open to applications from all Commonwealth countries, will be offered to one successful student who will benefit from their full tuition fees, return air fares to and from the UK and monthly stipend being met jointly by the University and the Department for International Development (DFID). Developing Commonwealth Countries include: Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ghana, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Melawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Pacific, Swaziland and Tanzania.

Nancy Cooke, International Recruitment Manager at Liverpool Hope University says, 'Liverpool Hope University has a long history in supporting educational development, through its charity Global Hope, its course portfolio, and its own international scholarship scheme. The university is building on this agenda by offering a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for the MA International Perspectives in Education. The award winner will be fully supported in gaining knowledge and experience that will really make a difference in their home country, town and community.'

The MA in International Perspectives on Education programme allows education professionals to explore globalisation, community development, curriculum change, sustainability and the changing workforce, and draw on the best of different education systems. Students will be encouraged to investigate issues that affect their school, region or country and to make a real difference to their own practice. Students will develop comparative study skills in the field of education, IT and communication skills, and research skills which will enable them to critically reflect on theory and practice.

Applicants should first apply for the MA International Perspectives on Education direct to Liverpool Hope University by following the usual application procedure.

On receiving an offer of admission, applicants should then apply for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship through the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Electronic Application System

Candidates should note that institutions are asked to forward their nominations to the CSC no later than 1st May 2010.
