Leeds Trinity teacher training courses praised by Ofsted

Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills) has praised Leeds Trinity University College for the quality of its teacher training courses.

Leeds Trinity University College has been offering teacher training courses for 44 years. The enthusiasm and expertise of the staff at the institution are key to its success. In addition to this it also offers good personal support and teaching experience in schools for the prospective teachers.

These are the findings of a recent report by Ofsted, which judges Leeds Trinity University College’s teacher training provision to be good overall with outstanding features.

The Ofsted report highlights as outstanding the ability to be innovative and forward thinking, the leadership of the programmes, and partnerships with schools, which are very strong across the region.

Congratulating Leeds Trinity on its Ofsted report, John Townsley, Headteacher of Morley High School, says, 'We are proud to be involved in this partnership. We benefit greatly as a school from the superb quality of trainees who come through to work with us.  Leeds Trinity is outstanding in supporting those trainees to become brilliant teachers of the future.'

Leeds Trinity offers secondary teacher training at postgraduate level, while prospective primary school teachers undertake a four year undergraduate degree with Qualified Teacher Status.

Julia Tanner, Leeds Trinity’s Dean of Education, says, 'We know from the annual Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) Survey that Leeds Trinity University College trained NQTs are among the very best in the country, and we are delighted to see this reflected in the Ofsted report. The inspection team noted the high quality of our teacher training courses, identifying particular strengths in our flexibility in personalising programmes to meet individual needs, our outstanding partnerships with schools, and the highly professional attitudes displayed by trainees.'
