Leeds Trinity is holding its annual Journalism WeekLeeds Trinity University College’s annual Journalism Week is taking place from Monday 28th February to Friday 4th March. Throughout the week a selection of top international journalists will discussing their careers, as well as the latest news trends. These experts will be from different aspects of the field of journalism - including online, television, radio and print media, and they will be presenting a series of talks and workshops at Leeds Trinity’s Horsforth campus. Throughout Journalism Week the cut and thrust of 21st century news delivery is brought to life, and students on undergraduate and postgraduate journalism courses at Leeds Trinity will get hands-on experience by providing news coverage of the week’s events. Journalism week will start with talks on the expanding digital media, followed by talks from journalists experienced in the conventional media. These will be provided by sports commentator John Helm and ITN correspondents Tim Singleton and Chris Ship. Thursday 3rd March is One World Media Day, and lectures on this day will focus on the global media, with keynote speaker Sorious Samura, the internationally renowned documentary maker. International reporters Kitty Logan, Nadene Ghouri and the BBC’s Jill McGivering will deliver masterclass sessions and a panel discussion. During Journalism Week there will be input from BBC Look North’s Christa Ackroyd – the country’s first female radio news editor and one of the region’s best known television presenters – and Yorkshire Evening Post editor Paul Napier. From the world of sports journalism there will be talks from former international gymnast Barbara Slater who now oversees BBC Sport, as well as the BBC’s Ollie Williams and Scott Dougal from the Press Association, who will speak about their Olympics coverage. The BBC’s former deputy director general Mark Byford will round off the week with his views on the workings of the world’s largest and most influential news organisations.
