The College is offering 60 PhD studentships in the Health Schools, following its success in attracting externally funded awards combined with a major investment of College funds. Awards are mainly available for four years, and include an annual stipend and tuition fees.
The studentship awards will be offered by the College’s interdisciplinary Research Groups and Centres, funded internally by King’s Graduate School (10 awards) and numerous prestigious external sources including the Medical Research Council and Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council, the British Heart Foundation, and other leading charitable organisations and industrial sponsors.
The 60 studentships span divisions in the School of Biomedical & Health Sciences, Medicine, Dental Institute and Institute of Psychiatry.
Professor Robert Lechler, Vice-Principal (Health) at King’s, comments: ‘The award of more than 50 fully funded PhD studentships across the Health Schools reflects the ongoing success of King’s in attracting prestigious research council, charity and other externally funded awards, together with the commitment of our Graduate School which is funding 10 studentships.
‘We have experienced substantial growth in research activity, providing our students with a stimulating research environment which is underpinned by an excellent supervisory and training programme.’
King’s is the most successful university in the country for PhD completion rates (HEFCE, 2007). The Health Schools also run an innovative Researcher Development Programme enabling students to gain highly valued skills for careers in business, government, academia and the healthcare professions.
