King’s College PGCE graded outstanding!
Ofsted - the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills - regulates and inspects in order to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages. The inspection took place at King’s College London from the 15th-19th March 2010. Jeremy Burke, PGCE Programme Director, Department of Education & Professional Studies, says of the results, ‘There were 9 out of 9 grade 1’s and two overall grade 1’s - a clean sweep, which grades the provision at King's as outstanding. One of the overall grades is for "capacity to change" which means the ability of a course to adjust to new developments. The inspector's comment was that we were not "adjusting" to change but "causing" change, leading rather than following.’ Christopher Winch, Professor of Educational Philosophy and Policy, and Head of the Department of Education & Professional Studies, adds, ‘The department is very pleased with this report but takes particular pride in the mention that is made of the way in which research carried out in the department prepares trainees for their first post and for ongoing professional development.’ Professor Rick Trainor, the Principal of King's College London, says, ‘This is truly excellent news and I congratulate all concerned.’ Find out more about King’s College London.
