The University of Exeter has consistently ranked amongst the best UK universities in the league tables and was honoured as the Times Higher University of the Year 2007/08. Research is central to the life and spirit of the University. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, all subjects were assessed as including world-leading (4*) research and nearly 90 per cent of research was rated as being internationally recognised.

As part of their continued commitment to research, the University of Exeter is offering 100 PhD Studentships and 80 PhD Bursaries for 2009 entry. The awards are offered full-time, however it may also be possible to study part-time with prior agreement from the Academic School.
The Studentships cover all fees for three years plus an annual maintenance grant (Research Council-equivalent). The Bursaries are worth £7,000 a year for three years and include the opportunity to teach within the School (80 hours per year required).
