The University of Birmingham’s Department of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) is introducing cutting-edge courses in the areas of terrorism and gender in Fall 2009, adding to its world-class range of offerings.
A new seminar course in Terrorism, Political Violence, and International Politics will critically analyse the politics of countering terrorism at
the national and international levels. It will complement a course just introduced for Fall 2008, Theory and Ethics of Terrorism and Political Violence, which explores ethical issues related to political violence, including defining terrorism and the terrorist. Both courses will form the foundation of a broader MA programme in terrorism and political violence that is under development.
POLSIS also will offer in 2009–10 a thought-provoking course titled Sex and Death and War and Peace: Gendering World Politics. This course interrogates gendered structures of power and practice in international politics, as well as in the theorising about it.
'We’re thrilled to be able to enhance our existing offerings with these state-of-the-art seminars,' said POLSIS Postgraduate Director Luis Cabrera. 'Our MA programmes offer an ever-broader range of quality choices for students, at some of the most affordable fees of any UK research university.'
