Energy and environment scholarships available

ScottishPower has announced its renewed commitment to scholarships for UK Masters students in 2012. The Fundación IBERDROLA, the charitable arm of ScottishPower’s parent company, has launched a new round of scholarship and research grant programmes focussed on energy and environmental studies for the academic year of 2012/2013.

Over the last two years the organisation has invested £380,000 in its UK Masters programme, supporting 19 students. This has enabled the students to pursue energy related studies, including Masters degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Renewable Energy Systems and the Environment.

Now in its third year, Masters students from four universities - are University of Edinburgh, University of Strathclyde, Imperial College London and University of Liverpool - will benefit from the funding for energy and environment related courses.

Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at ScottishPower, Ann Loughrey, says, “The scholarship programme was launched in 2010 as part of our commitment to addressing future skills in the energy industry. So far almost 20 students in the UK have benefited from funding as they pursue academic qualifications in this vital area of study. We believe that investing in skills development and education is an important contribution towards developing future skilled leaders and professionals equipped with the highest level of training for the industry.”

The scholarship meets full enrolment costs and provides a monthly living allowance of £1,200 to students in the UK. More details can be found at www.scottishpower.com/scholarships

The deadline for applications for these scholarships is Wednesday 29th February 2012.
