Dutch university celebrates its 92nd birthdayWageningen University in the Netherlands has celebrated its 92nd birthday with the theme 'A World In Transition'. At the event, PhD-students presented results of their research into cleaner production processes; from reducing the emission of greenhouse gasses in agriculture to producing materials and energy with biological rather than fossil resources. Speakers at the event included Professor Marten Scheffer - winner of the prestigious Spinoza Prize in 2009; Professor Robbert Dijkgraaf - president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences; and Rector Professor Martin Kropff. These speakers gave their opinions on the role of science in a world that is undergoing rapid and radical transitions.
