'Doctoring the Mind' receives excellent reviews

Bangor Psychology logoA book by Professor Richard Bentall, an internationally renowned Professor of Clinical Psychology at Bangor University’s highly rated Psychology department, has attracted excellent reviews in both The Guardian and The Times.

Doctoring the Mind
is a stimulating and innovative study that challenges the established orthodoxy of beliefs surrounding the treatment of mental illness. Starting with surprising evidence from the World Health Organisation that suggests people recover better from mental illness in a developing country than in the first world, Doctoring the Mind asks the question: how good are our mental health services? Extending the arguments he began in his previous book, Madness Explained (which won the British Psychological Society Book Award in 2004). This new book could have a profound impact on the treatment and understanding of mental illness in the twenty-first century.

This is just one small example of the calibre of research being carried out by world-renowned academics at Bangor’s Psychology department. Whichever one of our masters programmes you choose you will be working alongside scientists at the cutting edge of their fields. The 2008 RAE results firmly established Bangor Psychology as one of the premier departments in UK Psychology, offering a combination of quality and quantity that is unique amongst UK Psychology departments and offers its students unparalleled opportunities.
