Creative writing success for UWIC student

As amazing as it sounds, an MA student at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff has receieved two publishing offers in just one week!

Julie Owen Moylan, a student on the MA English & Creative Writing course at UWIC entered the Wales Women’s National Coalition competition. Julie was then thrilled when she found out her piece of writing - The Dance - was to be included in the anthology, The Voice of Women in Wales. The Dance is about a women's journey through life from a happy, young girl to a war widow in Wales. The anthology, was launched at Cardiff County Hall on March 10th 2010, to celebrate International Women’s Day.

In the same week that she found out The Dance was to be included in this anthology, Julie received an email from the Editor of Horizon Review, the literary magazine arm of Salt Publishing, asking permission to publish another piece of her work which will appear in the April/May issue of Horizon Review. This piece of work is called Alice - a Life in Parts. It is about a young girl who is leaving her traumatic past behind - and was originally written as part of Julie’s studies at UWIC.

Commenting on this success Julie says: “I’m so excited about both of these. I find inspiration in all kinds of things past and present and I’m always looking for the story in everything around me. When I started my course here at UWIC, I wanted to see my work in print and this is a wonderful start to my writing career.”

Julie will complete her MA in 2010 and hopes to embark on a PhD at UWIC the following academic year.
