Cranfield celebrates a decade of its MSc in Motorsport Engineering and Management

This year sees Cranfield University celebrate ten years of its MSc Motorsport Engineering and Management programme. And this November,
70 Cranfield alumni, many from leading motorsport companies such as Red Bull Technology, McLaren Racing, Renault F1, Williams F1, Force India and Mercedes High Performance Engines, joined current students at Silverstone to celebrate this anniversary.

Matthew Sorrell, who was a student on the first year of the MSc in 2000/2001, is now CFD Team Leader for Red Bull Technology Limited. He says, 'My career in motorsport has been more challenging and more rewarding than any other branch of engineering I've encountered. The all-round motorsport knowledge and experiences I gained while at Cranfield have proven invaluable to date, allowing me to work closely with departments outside my own area of expertise and understand their objectives and requirements. I believe that this is the strongest feature of the Cranfield Motorsport MSc as only by appreciating the sometimes conflicting requirements of race car design can you produce a car that excels in all areas without any weaknesses, which has to be the ultimate aim of any motorsport engineer.'

The guest were spread across the ten years of the MSc course, and enjoyed a celebratory lunch during which two current students received bursaries of £5,000 each from the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust.
