Coventry urges entrepreneurs to think 'global' with MA in Global Entreprenuership

“Can entrepreneurship be taught”?

Yes, is the response from Coventry University to this age-old debate following the launch of its new MA in Global Entrepreneurship.

From January 2009, the University will run a two-year course in entrepreneurial development.

The part-time programme is open to entrepreneurs already in business and employees of larger organisations who have been tasked with setting up new projects, as well as Coventry University graduates. Upon entry, students will analyse themselves to discover ways to improve their own entrepreneurial potential, learn techniques to unlock their creativity, before embarking on research and compiling a business plan for their new venture.

“Being entrepreneurial is not just about targeting your neighbourhood or region – there are global opportunities for expansion out there,” said the Director of the University’s Institute for Applied Entrepreneurship, Dr Gideon Maas. “This course gives participants the knowledge, tools and strategies required to develop an internationally competitive entrepreneurial business or project – and to make that venture of profitable one.”

The University has linked up with the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade as part of the programme.  It is hoped the course will produce “at least 10 international successful entrepreneurial ventures”. Dr Maas continued: “The curriculum will be tailored in line with the needs of an individual business or project to ensure that we are providing the correct skills and development at all times,” he explained.

The launch of the MA in Global Entrepreneurship follows hot on the heels of Coventry University’s nomination for Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the annual Times Higher Education awards.
