A Mergers & Acquisitions Research Centre or MARC has been established at City’s Cass Business School. It is the only active M&A centre to be found at a major global business school and will act as a hub for industry-focused, thought-leading research.
The Centre will derive the majority of its funding from a select group of external organisations. The founding sponsors are Allen & Overy, Credit Suisse, Deloitte and the FT Group. The support of these organisations means the MARC will be one of the first fully-funded research centres at Cass.
Cass’s key strengths lie in finance and management, and MARC will draw on this internal expertise as well as M&A practitioners and faculty from other leading business schools around the world to produce relevant market-specific research. An advisory board drawn from academia and industry will be established to direct the activities of the centre.
The academic lead for the Centre, Professor Scott Moeller, explained the role of the centre: “MARC will conduct research that is academically rigorous and of direct practical use for the industry as well as providing advice, support and training programmes for individuals and institutions involved in the M&A industry.”
Cass Dean, Richard Gillingwater, comments: “I think the M&A Centre is an excellent initiative for Cass and one that is very appropriate given our reputation for world-class research, our links with industry and the City of London’s position as one of the major centres for M&A activity.”
