Bolton launches a Multimedia Jounalism Masters in China

The University of Bolton is launching a Multimedia Journalism masters in Beijing, China.

The MA International Multimedia Journalism will be taught in English, and will concentrate on developing skills for journalists to deliver stories through multiple digital platforms.

The MA International Multimedia Journalism is a full-time, 12 month course. Upon completion, successful students will be awarded a University of Bolton masters degree.

The course has been created through a collaboration between Beijing Foreign Studies University and the University of Bolton.

Dr Dave Clark, the course leader, says, 'The course is taught by influential international instructors and seeks to train both student and practicing journalists to embrace new media and find innovative ways to tell their stories on multiple platforms (TV, Radio, Print, Web, Mobile, E Reader etc).'

He continues, 'The course is specifically designed to prepare journalists wanting to work internationally with the skills needed to work innovatively on stories across multiplatforms.'

The course content of the MA International Multimedia Journalism is divided into three sections: Firstly, critical discussions on the core skills that span the three traditional modes of delivery (print, radio, TV) set against the online international newscape. Secondly, students undertake project-based learning that will challenge them to work on creative projects that require both an in-depth understanding of new technologies, and a willingness to innovate and apply them in a journalistic context. Thirdly, students engage with industry through live projects.

Dr Clark adds, 'Our new course is very sharply focused on the demands made on today's international multimedia journalist and giving students the latest knowledge applicable to their profession.'
