Birkbeck welcomes coalition financial review for part-time students
Professor Latchman said, 'For too long part-time students have been the Cinderellas of the HE sector. The Conservative-Liberal coalition can correct the mistakes and inequities of the past and finally deliver a higher education system that is fair for all. We look forward to working with the government on the review. Speaking on Friday 21st May, Professor Latchman proposed the creation of a single, integrated system of institutional funding and student support. He also called for all students, both full-time and part-time, to have equal access to fee grants or loans. He said, 'Part-time institutions like Birkbeck do not want special treatment. We simply want parity and the creation of a level playing field which values all students equally – regardless of whether they study full or part-time.'
