Bangor Business School launches new base in the City of LondonBangor Business School has launched a new teaching base in the City of London. This makes Bangor University the only Welsh higher education institution to take its teaching into London. The University’s Bangor Business School is currently ranked as the leading institution in the UK for Accounting, Banking and Finance research. Bangor Business School will be providing an excellent range of degree and postgraduate courses, as well as offering a combination of MBA and MSc degrees. Head of Bangor Business School, Professor John Thornton, says, “We have one of the leading Banking and Finance faculties in Europe and our research in the field is officially second to none. By opening a new facility dedicated to our core strength in the City of London, we aim to bring our expertise directly to the financial capitol.” The Bangor London Centre will deliver five of Bangor Business School's flagship postgraduate qualifications – two MBA and three MSc programmes. The three MSc programmes on offer will be Finance, Banking & Finance and International Banking & Development Finance. While the two MBA programmes will be Banking & Finance and Islamic Banking & Finance. All of these masters programmes will be delivered by the Business School’s current staff. This is the only qualification in the world to combine an MBA qualification with Chartered Banker status, and will be available as a distance-learning programme. Lord Mervyn Davies, Chairman of Bangor University Council and former UK Trade Minister and Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, says, “London is one of the world's largest and most important financial centres. It is only right that Bangor as a leader in its own field has a presence there.” The Chartered Banker MBA will be taking its second intake of students in January 2012, with the MSc and MBA programmes taking their first cohort this September.
