12 Postgraduate Research Studentships available at Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth University logoStudents interested in studying for a PhD at Aberystwyth University are being urged to submit their applications soon if they want to be considered for a prestigious bursary worth more than £50,000 over three years.

The University offers 12 Aberystwyth Postgraduate Research Studentships (APRS) which cover the cost of tuition for up to three years, provide an annual maintenance allowance of around £13,290 and give access to a travel and conference fund.

The deadline is 1 March 2010, please contact the Postgraduate Admissions Office for departmental deadlines.

Simon Payne is studying for his PhD in Sport & Exercise Science and says the APRS has been an enormous benefit.

'My initial application for an APRS in 2006 was unsuccessful so I was self-funding for the first year of my PhD. As a result, I could only study as a part-time student and had to spend the rest of the time working to pay my way. Juggling my studies with an external job and teaching work was very challenging, but I was able to resubmit a stronger APRS application in 2007 and was successful second time around,' said Simon.

'The benefits of the APRS are tremendous. I would urge prospective postgraduate students to submit their applications – and not to be dissuaded from PhD study if they’re unsuccessful in the first instance.'

For full information and eligibility criteria see the APRS website.
